Job description

Seeking an Account Director, Medical Affairs to join a global medical communications agency. The ideal person will have managed large-scale accounts and have expertise in various deliverables, they draw on a wide range of knowledge to ensure that clients receive top-quality service. You will oversee projects and finances, drive growth, and be a trusted point of contact for clients, providing strategic guidance and support on a day-to-day basis. This is a remote role, requiring the person to be East Coast based.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients, becoming their main point of contact to ensure satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the client's business, therapeutic areas, and scientific needs.
  • Provide on-site support when necessary.
  • Lead client strategy, manage projects, and help address any business challenges.
  • Guide the internal team to execute projects successfully and anticipate any potential problems.
  • Leverage client relationships to secure ongoing business and ensure satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the scientific lead to develop and implement client strategies, such as brand, medical, or publication plans.
  • Understand the competitive landscape and industry trends.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure comprehensive strategic, creative, and digital planning for clients.
  • Lead and oversee projects, guiding the team as needed and ensuring tasks are assigned appropriately.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of internal processes, workflows, and resourcing needs.
  • Provide strategic guidance to ensure smooth project execution and prevent any issues.
  • Review and approve content, collaborating with the scientific lead.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to ensure alignment, clear actions, and an open forum for questions.
  • Manage financial planning, forecasting, WIP (work in progress) reporting, and timely invoicing.
  • Work with senior leadership to ensure accounts are adequately resourced.
  • Deliver projects within agreed budgets and timelines while maintaining transparency with clients about financial health, including scope changes or out-of-scope work.
  • Build strong relationships with the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely information.
  • Ensure team members complete their timesheets promptly.
  • Drive organic growth within existing accounts and identify opportunities for the broader team.
  • Assist senior team members with new business pitches, including attending face-to-face presentations.
  • Help generate ideas and proposals for new projects with support from senior colleagues.
  • Lead proposals for smaller pitches and client growth initiatives
  • Mentor junior staff, providing coaching to support their development.
  • Direct and oversee the work of junior colleagues, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Develop mid-level staff by promoting best practices and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Significant experience a Medical Communications agency setting
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., science, pharmacology, or medicine) is preferred.
  • Proven experience in client-facing roles, managing projects in a fast-paced agency environment.
  • Experience managing multiple smaller accounts with competing priorities.
  • Expertise across a range of therapeutic areas and project types.
  • Strong project management skills, with comfort managing financials, budgets, and forecasting.
  • People-focused approach with experience in team management and cross-functional collaboration with scientific and creative teams.
