Job description

We are hiring a full-time Director, Corporate and Strategic Planning for a diagnostic start-up company in San Diego, CA that is on the brink of commercialization. This leader is primarily responsible for managing corporate and strategic planning efforts, portfolio governance and prioritization, and driving strategy projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the annual strategic planning process, including developing and providing training, supporting material development, and ensuring coordination across the business and functions
  • Develop and own the Portfolio Management Process (pipeline of ideas to products within the portfolio)
  • Provide thought leadership and material development for updates to the Board of Directors as needed
  • Drive portfolio governance management including goals setting, dashboard and KPI management, prioritization, decisions and budget
  • Lead development of the integrated portfolio operating plan that aligns portfolio priorities and enables achievement of strategic objectives. Ensure that portfolio plans and recommendations are aligned with strategic priorities and maximize value
  • Utilize project management, analytical and decision support skills to lead 'special projects' that advance key strategic priorities for corporate opportunities
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses to support both corporate strategy and portfolio decision-making efforts, as well as contribute to competitive analysis activities
  • Work with Strategy team to align on global market growth expectations and impacts on Annual Planning process
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required

Background qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Life Sciences or related field, MBA or related advanced degree desired
  • Minimum 14+ years of relevant professional experience in the Lifescience/Biotech Industry, including broad experience in strategy and portfolio management within a Corporate or Consulting setting; 3+ years experience at a top-tier management consulting firm preferred
  • Strong communicator, able to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in writing, comfortable in business and technical discussions
  • Effective at building relationships, collaborating, and influencing others; experience working with senior executives across various geographies and functions
  • Experience working on strategic initiatives from framing the problem, conducting research and analysis, building business and implementation plans and driving execution through to success
  • Self-starter who enjoys to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; must be organized and efficient, with effective interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
